Saving you the details of my move from Canada to Houston after more then 1 year of commuting...

Sometime in 2008.... I became a  member of the Houston Polo Club and, committed to attend all of its events. Friends of mine got me connected; that's what they do, they are fabulous socialites here in Houston and know how to pull you out of your hibernation [whether you like it or not]. I love polo games, the grounds are wonderful, the crowd is interesting but most of all I love horses, it is my weak spot. My dear friend Debbie joins me, every Sunday, off we go, Sofie my loyal 4 legged companion has a blast!

Like all sports, high end sports, even the "Sports of Kings" has sponsors, for the Houston Polo Club there are several, one of them "Momentum Jaguar & Land Rover" - did I buy a new car? No I did not, my story is not about my car purchases, it is however about the catalyst that allowed me to move on to 'Greener Pastures' and eventually the deep blue colors of the the Caribbean, his name is Kurt (not Kirk - please).

Fast forward, between social events, a crazy job (both of us) and yes, real dates, Kurt continuous to introduce me to a city with so many tentacles and hidden beauty that I come to realize that I want to grow roots here. It is not the "everything is big in Texas type of city" unless you insist of course. Kurt's neighborhood is eclectic, artistic, colorful packed with little eateries and lively terraces, fine dining, parks, galleries et all, hard to believe you are actually in the middle of {huge} Houston the Mecca of Oil and Gas!

Kurt's mantra, "everything I  need in this world is less than 1 and 1/2 mile away from my home"... he turned out to be right; except for our travel plans.

And here we go, September 3rd 2008, Kurt and I are making our first trip together. I had made a 'promise to self' to take a break every 3 months to go somewhere..., so here we go. I have to say, after many years of visiting the Cayman Islands, I adopted Punta Cana, I admit, a different world, however I visited several resorts on the island, Club Med, RIU, Caribe... but Dreams is different, is it all in A name?

I am not the only one, Kurt loves it, what's not to love, white sands, beautiful suites, 24h room service, an amazing spa and fantastic restaurants and more, oh so much more. We venture outside the resort, colorful and typical island live - gotta love it! Well, we do. Enough to return 4 months later.

In the meanwhile back to Houston back to work, back to...?

IKE!! No, this one was not part of the plan, not OUR plan at least. While on a business trip to Las Vegas hurricane IKE hits, it hits hard. We extend our stay because there is nothing to come home to, neither of us have electricity or water and, we are unclear about the damage at our respective homes. We decide to postpone our return until we have somewhat of a better idea about power, damage etc... we drive to Phoenix and visit my dear friends Kathy and Zsolt, the most wonderful people you'll ever meet. Things could be worse.

Kurt is the ultimate travel partner, calm, enthusiast, low key (helps with security), curious, always a beautiful smile (I'll show you the pictures) and resourceful. Nothing shakes him...not yet.

Another Kurt-ism, who would have thonk - taught, for those who didn't get it.

Things feel right, they feel real and good, we can do this forever, we should; and so we commit, and [officialize] on thanksgiving; and bank on the proverbial diamonds are forever, the ring is beautiful.

So, the wedding, when is the easy part ...and for some reason, which I don't remember, September made sense.

Where, not so easy. Houston - hmm, not really, Michigan? yeah, makes sense? Kurt's home town. Bromont, Quebec, Yeah...another option,,,getting it together? yuk.. where to start? No idea... the Internet?? Yup, these days many things start right there!!

After pondering several options for a wedding in Michigan or Houston or Bromont - the,  why not keep it simple and take the show to Dreams Punta Cana??? Duh, - for some reason  made sense, we pitched IT to our family, and our closest friends. Would they travel? Would they travel to the Islands? Guess what!  THEY ARE!!

The total group is 21, that includes both of us. Destination - DONE; Date - DONE; Wedding program and details TO BE DONE!!! Not that simple it seems.

After impetuous searches and realizing the idiosyncrasies to be dealt with, I come to realize that a wedding planner is the way to go. I land on Caribbean Weddings out of Florida, seasoned planners very familiar with the Islands and destination weddings is their business.

So, Stephanie is now my partner in crime... she operates quickly, flights are booked, rooms are booked. That's the easy part. Why, because ones all of that is taken care of, the resort assigns you one of their own on-site wedding coordinators. This is where the fun seems to start.... till next time....
