We've had a whirlwind of events and traveling the past few days. When we left Ljubljana, we took a train over to Zagreb, the capital of Croatia. Our first choice would have been to go to Rovinj, Croatia but we checked the weather and it was forecasted to be 50 degrees and cloudy for a few days. So going to a beach town probably wouldn’t have been the best idea. Instead, we settled on Zagreb because it was a good connection point to what we wanted to do the next day: visit the Plitvice Lakes. So we arrived in Zagreb, saw the "best" part of the city during our ten minute walk to a hostel and spent a night there. (The “best” part of the city was just the main square area with a bunch of locals- mostly junior high and high school kids- and a few blocks of cafes off to the side of the square.)

Overall, Zagreb was kind of weird to me because there wasn’t hardly anything to do it seemed. Everything except cafes were closed by sunset. We had trouble just finding a place that served food after 8pm. And we’d heard a lot of mixed reviews about the city (mostly negative) so we knew we weren’t missing much when we woke up at 7am the next morning to catch a bus 3 hours southwest to the Plitvice Lakes.

One thing funny that stands out in my mind though was when we were wandering around the main square area looking for food and five Croatian junior high girls starting following us for a few moments. Then one of them stepped in front of us and asked Andre to take a picture with them. Andre obliged and then the four other girls huddled around him while the main girl took the picture. It was really cute! I was standing to the side and all the girls looked so happy and excited to be taking a picture with him. Andre and I couldn’t figure out whether it was because they’d never seen someone Asian before or because of his handsomeness. Haha.
