After leaving Oklahoma City, we got back onto I-40 west and headed for Amarillo, TX (only 4 hours from OK).
It was bad from the get go........
First, it got dark. Then, it got REAL dark (no lights or reflectors on I-40 between OK and TX except for in big towns.... (there are none)).
Next, it started raining....Then, it started raining harder.
Now, while driving in pitch black downpour.... add in a slew of crazy truck drivers weaving in and out of construction areas and one lane passes at 90mph
Now that we're on the same page.... add in one more thing..... a faulty windshield wiper (p.s. Jennie--- revoking my kudos... hahaha).
So, that leaves us in a pitch black obstacle course during a monsoon with no windshield wipers.... goodtimes!
We decided to pull over (as we're only 2 hours into the 4 hour trek) into a gas station to fix the wiper. (mind you it's 11 pm). We did the first and most logical thing we could think of. We bought a box of double stuff oreos.
THEN, we asked the attendant for a bit of help and she sent us around back to the truck servicing dept. where they could take a look at the banged up wiper. (Good thing we're girls... seriously).
The guys at the shop were nice enough to play around with the wiper until it snapped properly into place, and then sent us on our merry way.
Back on I-40, we drove another two hours (the trip is now closer to 6 hours due to all the delays) into texas and boldly enough tried to stop and take a picture of the state sign (We won't let shenanigans get the best of us!)
Unfortunately, it was still raining and dark but we posted the picture for you anyway
Okay! Back on the road AGAIN. Only 1 more hour 'til Amarillo and we can check into our hotel and get in bed.
Well, except we didn't know where the hotel was and then it started storming harder than ever before (things really are bigger in Texas)! So.... we called my poor mom who looked up the number for us before we completely lost all sanity.
FINALLY we made it. Thank God!! (Oh speaking of, there's a pretty eerie picture of a cross we passed in the rain on the way into Amarillo... The creepy thing is that the cross looked totally normal until we took the picture.... enjoy)
Tomorrow---- Albuquerque, NM (Only 5 hours from here)!
(and a pedicure... please)
The options are:
1) Amanda to Jenny: "is that 2 apples, 2 boxes of cheerios and 4 peanut butters in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?" (in reference to the snacks we were carrying out)
2) Jenny: "There are two ways to drive.... you can drive defensively, or you can drive like a retard and let everyone around you drive defensively. I choose the latter."
