We had decided to travel around Ireland and the UK on the weekends during the first three months abroad and leave the rest of Europe for our break in April.  So once the first Saturday morning rolled around we got up and walked into town to the bus station.  We looked at the schedule and saw that a bus was leaving for Kinsale in 20 minutes so we got round trip tickets for 9 euro.  After a 40 minute scenic ride, we arrived in Kinsale.  It was beautiful!

When we got off the bus we had no idea what to do.  After a couple minutes of walking aimlessly around the town we spotted a tourist building.  Unfortunately it was closed, but, we noticed a map inside the glass window of the building and it had routes to ancient ruins and forts in the surrounding areas.  We picked a trail and then we were on our way.

The sky was clear and the sun was out but it was still pretty chilly.  The hour trail along the water was filled with scenery that made it hard not to take a zillion pictures.

Once we arrived at the Charles fort we grabbed a map and started wondering around the National Monument.  It was constructed in the late 17th century and is one of the largest militay forts in the country.

After the fort we headed back into town for some lunch.  We had heard that Kinsale is the culinary capital of Ireland but because we were starving we didn’t look around much and just went to the first place in site.  Ned Kelly’s was a down and dirty looking pub that was quite deserted with the exception of a few locals.  We ordered nachos for an appetizer and received Doritos soaked in tomato sauce with a slice of melted slice of cheese.  It did not look appetizing and no one in the group really cared for it.  Lesson learned: don’t order nachos in Ireland.

All in all, it was a great day trip and we are all looking forward to our next one! :)
