Part 2 Romania visit - Sinaia
What a difference a week can make - where did the thigh high snow go? Spring has sprung. Most of the snow was gone in the town of Sinaia itself, but we headed up the mountain for some play.
Where does the time go? We feel busy so much of the time! Except maybe when we are on the 45 minute gondola ride to the top of the Bucegi mountain range, Romania! And then one of us, at least, is wondering why we want to downhill ski with two adult sets, boots, one child set of skis, plus two kids in tow. Then we saw the toboggans for rent.... Oh well, that would be day 2 of mountain bumming. Skiing with toddlers is an incredible workout on the quads and the hamstrings (and not for the toddlers)! The Lonely Planet promised us some cross country skiing, but even the ski rental folks knew nothing about skis or trails in the area!! But someone surely must have X-country skis - would be stunning skiing.
We suppose with two youngsters, life is in some ways much the same in Eastern Europe as it is in Whitehorse. Except that it takes us much longer in Romania and Bulgaria to arrange accommodation, train tickets, to grocery shop - how blissful it will be to return to grocery shopping in familiar surroundings. If only we can arrange to have a few of our favourite things from Europe to suddenly appear on the shelves of shops in Whitehorse....
On our last day in Romania we had forgotten about the time/clock change ...things you forget while traveling - just as well our helpful 'landlords' think of these things and remind us so we do not miss the train! Michael (landlord) even delivered us to the train station at the end of our stay in Sinaia. Cannot get over how helpful the people are in Romania - bending over backwards to assist.
Next - night train to Budapest, one more night there, a visit to Statue Park, then a taste of the no frills airline Easy Jet to London then to Glasgow. Time is clicking on - more than ½ of our 11 months away is done.
