The day we left blantyre.
We couldnt get the early bus as we still had to buy gas etc so decided to get the 2pm bus. I wasn't too keen as it meant arriving after dark but we decided to go anyway. What a journey!
The bus quickly filled up to the point of people rammed in, standing, squashed in the aisle. We were fortunate to have a seat but near the back with all of our stuff, which later became very problematic for getting off the bus with all our stuff!
Anyway the bus ride lasted 7 hours instead of 4 (despite being driven in a very fast erratic way), which some quite comical moments, including a guy chasing after the bus, hitting the side in a desperate attempt to give us our change for some cokes. we all had to get off at a random town for a police check and i wanderd off to find a loo and nearly missed getting back on, but even with all of the poele fn the isles our seats had been saved.
anyway after 7 hours the bus stopped in the middle of nowhere, on the side of the road in Chipoka, our destination. we had ben debating not getting off if there wasn't any sign of life but by this point the Malawi music blarring out of the speakers had driven me to enough distraction to get off a bus in the dark, at no obvious place.
Luckily we found a man and a bike and paid him to carry our kayaks and a bag on his bike to a place to stay by the lake, which there fortunately was. This took quite some rather animated miming but he took us the 3km to a hotel successfully. It was a bit shitty, over[ppriced and the most discusting food i had ever ever eaten, but we had made it to the lake and were rather chuffed with ourselves. The semi cold beer went donw very well on the beach.
Apologies for the rather rubbish typing, this is a VERY slow computer. will update the next few days of the trip in the next few days! c:
