We tried to leave Ventura on Wednesday just after 7am and it was pouring down with rain, we had to find the petrol station at Ralph's  and get some supplies. Eric and Vini very kindly lent us their GPS and after a few wrong turns we were on our way on the 101 to San Francisco. Once the rain eased off we took highway one (the coast road) with a quick stops at Pismo Beach, Hearst Castle and Big Sur.
We had a quick stop in Monteray to get petrol and check the internet for our accomodation address. (We booked into an downstairs flat in Berkeley thru an internet site call bnbair). We then headed up towards Oakland to get to Berkely. The views were AMAZING which made our just under 11 hour drive manageable.

Thursday we headed into San Francisco to book our tour of Alcatraz only to find that we couldn't get onto a tour until MONDAY at 9.30am. We had planned to leave San Francisco Monday morning, but I guess we couldn't leave until we had done Alcatraz.

San Francisco is an amazing place, so much to see and I guess like all major cities like this there are so many iconic and touristy things to do but not enough time. Loved the views, the Golden Gate bridge, the hills and streets, there is alot of atmosphere here. It is also Fleet week, so there are fighter jets flying over head high and low above the city adding to the excitement of the city. It is packed (not as bad as China),

As for the driving, I am managing but it can be very nerve wracking approaching intersections and trying to make sure whether they have lights or stop signs, pedestrians who have right of way, whether I am turning down the right way of the street (to the right Tina, to the right) and on top of that trying not to side swipe anyone with our wide car!!!!!!

Loving it though.

Doing Alcatraz tomorrow, then heading off to Salt Lake City via Lake Tahoe.

Will post when we get into SLC. xx

Looks a treat! Did you manage to get any family records in China? Peter served in the Ventura Mission, so we'll be doing the California coast thing in April 2012 after Conference. Hope everyone are still friends after being in such proximity!
