We made it!!!!
We are in Shanghai, with an approximate population of 20 million, that is nearly the population of Australia and we are the "foreigners".
Our flight over was comfortable and we were well looked after on Qantas (the last time was real cattle-car class on Air Asia).
We are clearly quite a sight for some of the locals. They probably don't see many families of five walking single-file down the street trying to keep out of everyone's way. I can see them looking real hard at the kids and I trying to figure out if we are Chinese or something else. To top it off we are obvious tourists trying to get around with a travel book and map and trying not to get ripped off or hawked to within an inch of our lives if we so much as make eye contact with a street seller!

The people are friendly enough and if you can get a smile it's a bonus (unless they are a street seller... just keep walking and don't say a thing).

We are living in an area that is a couple of blocks from the main pedestrian mall, East Nanjing Street,  yet close enough to all the local action to get early morning markets selling fresh food and tiny food hot stalls in the alleyways. There are also plenty of convenience stores with cold bottled water.

Our room is a bunk room of 6 beds with minimal moving space but it acutally does the job and we did have an extra person in the room the first night (odd) but then Andrew spoke to the front desk and he moved rooms. We have paid to rent the extra bed but at least we have the room to ourselves now.

The food is amazing and cheap and everyday we find a new place to eat with something else to offer, though noodles in soup with meat is a regular, the surprise is the flavour because we just point to the picture and look forward to the food.

The last two days we have been walking around to check out the Bund, the French Quarter and the Old City part of Shanghai. We have returned exhausted in the afternoons and then last night when we were ready we ventured out to find something light for dinner. No $10+ a kilo bananas here either!!

Now I will need to figure out how to put the photos on (sorry I am limited in my photography skills and camera) and how to send out this link to those I said I would!!! Trying now and Graham is trying to chat on Skype.

Toodles!!
