Great Allegheny Passage Bike Trip – Day 6: Connellsville, PA to Pittsburgh, PA

I woke up at 5am to steady rain. I checked 2 days ago, and the forecast was for sun.  At 7am, still raining hard, with a bit of a break expected at 11am, and then 40% for the rest of the day.  My thought is to make a run for it at 11am, but we will have to see what it looks like…

At 10am the rain slows, and we make a break for it at 10:30.  Emma seemed to be secretly hoping that the rain would not stop…I think she just wants the ride to be done!  But, no such luck.  We are on the trail for less than 30 minutes when the rain starts again – not pouring, but steady.  The rain continues for about 10 miles and we all get pretty wet and muddy.

By the time we approach Pittsburgh the rain has stopped and the sun is shining.  The final 10 miles becomes quite hilly, much to the dissatisfaction of the girls.  The good news is that they know that the end is near, so everyone is in good spirits.

We pull into Pittsburgh and the girls are off their bikes quickly and into the RV for food!  Within 5 minutes, while I am still loading the bikes on the RV, the sky opens and it pours rain.  We complete packing and start driving for Vermont.  Next challenge is set for Wednesday when we will climb up and down Mt. Washington in NH.

Signing off for now!
