July 21 - by Madison

Today we had a relaxing and exciting day. We were going to spend the day on the Mississippi relaxing and getting ready to go to Grace Land, Elvis Presley's home. First we went fishing for about 15 minutes, and then we decided to go back to the RV and read in the shade because it was so hot.  While we were sitting down my Dad said that he caught a huge fish.  We all ran down to see what he caught, and it was big and fat perch, the biggest that we caught on the trip!  After my Dad released it we went back to the shade and my Mom gave us chocolates that she said had peanuts in it, and since I'm no allergic to peanuts, I ate it.  After about 5 minutes I had an allergic reaction!  I was feeling so sick that I didn’t eat anything for lunch, and my Dad was concerned.  He investigated and looked at the chocolate my Mom gave me and saw that it had walnuts in it!  My mom felt so bad that she let me lay on the couch and read Sherlock Homes while Emma and Katelyn had to sit in the hot sun.  After a while I was starting to feel better, so I ate dinner and then watched a movie with my Mom, Emma and Katelyn.  I had a bad day because of my reaction.

Today we went to Elvis Presley’s home, Graceland, in Memphis Tennessee.  When we got there we went into a museum called Icon: The Influence of Elvis Presley.  When we got into the museum I was surprised to see that even country singers like Carrie Underwood wore outfits that looked like Elvis’.  After we left that museum we went on a tour of Elvis’ mansion.  I was really surprised how big it was, and also how expensive everything seemed.  I thought that there were really interesting things in the house, like a glass hallway, a jungle themed room, and a racquet ball room. My favorite room that I got to see was the living room, and I liked this room because I thought it looked the most like a regular room that a lot of people have.  I thought that it was interesting that there were peacock stained glass walls, because it didn’t look like it fit the room style.  I learned that Elvis purchased this house when he was only 22 for $110,000!  It was so big that I was surprised that it was that cheap, and now I’m sure that this house would be over 2 million dollars!  I also learned that this house was called Graceland because the owners before him were remembering their Aunt Grace, and Elvis liked that name also, so he didn’t change it.   I thought the most interesting things about the house were that there was carpet on the ceiling, carpet in the kitchen, and the large size of the basement.  After we left we went to see the car museum which had a lot of the cars that Elvis owned.  He owned 33 cars and motorcycles in his whole life, which is a lot.  I was surprised that he had so many because most of them were really expensive, like a Rolls Royce.  My favorite car was the pink limo because it was the prettiest and it was high quality.  When we left this room we went to see his airplane, named the "Lisa Marie".  I thought it was funny that he named his airplane after his daughter, and what was even more interesting was that the airplane had a dining room, bed room, and gold plated seat belts and sinks.  When we went in it I was very surprised that it was so big because if he was the only one flying someplace then he wouldn’t need such a huge plane. After we saw his plane, we decided that we did everything that was important, so we went back to the RV and went swimming.  While we were swimming my Dad accidently jumped on my leg and I was injured.  I played for a little bit more and then we went to a restaurant.  What was cool was that we rode in a pink limo, in honor of Elvis!  When we got back to the RV and then we were sent to bed.  I had a fun day visiting Elvis’ home.
