July 18 - by Katelyn

Today we went to Hot Springs National Park

Today we went on a 3 hour drive to Hot Spring National Park in Arkansas. On the way we stopped to get some pizza and some groceries. Once we got to the national park, Dad's car mirror hit another guys mirror making the guys mirror break, so dad had to put a note on the car with his phone number and what happened.  Then we went into the Visitors Center and learned about Hot Springs National Park.  I learned that the hot water here comes from Volcanic Action the ground.   I also learned that about 100 years ago people started to go into the water so their health problems could be cured, and the people would strip naked and go into the water!  Then we had to hurry to our campsite so that we could get a spot.  After that we ate dinner and went to bed early because we are going to hike tomorrow.

Today we went into the town of Hot Springs and to a really tall tower that is taller than the tower of terror.

Today we started out on a .8 mile hike into the town of Hot Springs.  When we were in the town we worked on our JR Ranger books.  My favorite part of the book was when we got to draw our own stained glass window.   I learned that it when the rain falls from the sky onto the Hot Spring it takes 4 thousand years for it to resurface again! When I learned this I was amazed because it takes so long to resurface. Then we went to a 20 minute JR Ranger program. There I hoola hooped and played a throwing game.  After we did that we went to a restaurant and I got a really good grilled cheese and fries.  I was craving something salty after our hike, so the grilled cheese was perfect for me!  Then, we went .5 miles to the really tall tower.  I was really excited because I got to go to the top of the tower.  At the top we had an amazing view of everything in the area.  The cool thing about the tower was that it was circular so there was one really long window going across the whole circle in a strip. Then we walked about another two miles back to the RV.  When we got back I caught fish in the river and put them in a big bucket.  Of course I released them, but I just kept them in the bucket for about 30 seconds.  Then I went swimming and slid down a slippery rock that was wet.  After that we went back to the RV and went to bed.
