June 5 - by Emma

Today we went to two national monuments, and the first one was called Navajo National Monument. When we got there we went into the visitor's center to get our junior ranger books.  We walked a little trail to see an overlook of the ruins, and when we got down there we learned that the Indians only stayed in this village for 30 years.  I think it is because there wasn’t enough water for all of them.  I liked these cliff dwellings, however my favorite cliff dwelling was Mesa Verde because their cliff dwellings were so big.  Then we walked back up and on the way my Dad and I got some good pictures of lizards.  Next we went back to the visitor’s center. When we got there my sisters were being taught how to spin sheep hair by a Navaho Indian woman.  I got to comb a sheep’s hair, and it was really fun.  That’s another animal I want on my future farm because of the wool.  Next we got our junior ranger badge, and after that we drove to Glen Canyon National Recreation Area.  On the way we stopped at a Chinese restaurant and it was really good.   My sister Madison was the only one able to get a sugar covered doughnut for dessert because it was the last one.   I wasn’t mad because my Dad said that he was going to get us something different.  When we got to the ranger station we saw a telescope out, and we were able to see Venus crossing the sun.  Everyone in the US can see this event, but you need special glasses.  I thought that it was really cool because the next time Venus crosses the sun is in 114 years!!! When we looked down off the edge of the bridge that we were standing on, we could see a dam, and for a minute I was confused because it looked so much like the Hoover Dam, and I thought I was there!!!!!  My Dad said it wasn’t as big, but I thought it looked bigger.  Then we went in the visitor’s center to get our junior ranger books, and we drove to the campsite. When we got there Madison and Katelyn did cross-stitching, while I spun sheep hair.  We also found out that there were no more popsicles in the fridge so we couldn’t have that as a treat.  Finally I ate dinner, and then went to bed.  I had a long day!
