May 5 – by Madison

Today in Los Angeles we had the best lunch ever, and then we went on a hike to the Hollywood sign.   For lunch we went to a Vietnamese place where my mom always goes when she is in California for work.   I ordered Vietnamese Noodles that were the best noodles I ever tasted.  After lunch we drove to Chris' house in Burbank to pick him up, and see his dog, Daisy. The drive was only supposed to be 30 minutes but it ended up being 1 hour because of all the traffic.  When we got there we went into house and met Daisy, who was very hyper.  Katelyn and Emma thought that she was cute, but she was too rowdy for me.   After we saw Daisy we went on the hike to see the Hollywood sign.  On the way up mom was stopping and staring at all of the beetles that were crawling across the path.  Once we got high enough we saw the whole town of Burbank on one side and LA on the other.  I really liked the view because I could see everything.  The 2 tall buildings in Burbank are the Holiday Inn, and Chris called them the Twin Towers because they were the only tall buildings in Burbank.  Once we got to the top we only saw the back of the Hollywood sign because if you wanted to see the front you have to go on different path.    We wanted to get a picture of us and the sign but my mom didn’t want us to go to the edge of the cliff where we could fall off.  When she wasn’t looking we snuck down to the picture spot, and when my Mom saw she got mad at my Dad because she said that he was putting our lives in danger.  Then Dad made her go down for a picture to show her that it was not dangerous, but she still seemed mad!  After we got our picture we went down the path that takes you to the front of the sign because the sun was starting to get set and my Dad wanted to get a picture of the sunset and the sign.  I thought that the Hollywood sign was a little bit boring because it was a white sign that said Hollywood.  After this picture we hiked back to the bottom, and then we drove into Burbank to go to a restaurant.  When we got into Burbank we drove to all the parking garages, but they were all full.  As we were going out of one garage we saw a line going into the movie theater, and we found out that all these people wanted to get tickets to see 'The Avengers’.  Burbank isn’t usually this busy but when there is a new movie it gets really busy.  After a while Dad just drove to a Marriott and parked there.  After dinner we dropped Chris off at his house and returned to the Marriott to go to bed.  I had an exciting day with Chris hiking to the Hollywood sign.

Today I woke up, and went to the breakfast bar at our hotel.  The food was really good.  Then we drove to my brother’s house to pick him up.  After that we drove through Beverly Hills and Hollywood on the way to the beach. We went to the Santa Monica pier.   On the pier I got to hold an albino python that had to weigh at least 50 pounds!  It was really cool. Then we ate lunch on the pier.  All I had was some fries, and an orange because I had a big breakfast.  Before we left the pier I saw an artist that drew colorful names using animal pictures.  I decided to get one, and then Madison and Katelyn followed me.  The funny thing is that Katelyn got one for Max.  I think that she got one for Max because his name is shorter, so it was cheaper, and she always wants to save her money.   When we walked down to the beach, there were rings that you could swing on, and on the first try I made it all the way across.  I felt proud of myself because it was really hard. Then I went down to the water, and looked for shells.  This was the first time on this trip that we stood in the Pacific Ocean.   The water was freezing cold, but it was still warmer than GRA!  When I was walking in the Pacific Ocean I found a really smooth rock and stroked it like I do with Max.   I saw a lot of homeless people that I felt really bad for.  They were so poor that they had to eat cat food.  Then we walked back to the car, and we drove back to Burbank.  We went to dinner at a Vietnamese restaurant, and got soup with tofu that was really good.  Then we dropped off Chris at his house, and drove to our hotel. I took a shower, and went to bed.

Today we hiked to the M*A*S*H TV site in Malibu Creek Canyon and we went to a Dodgers game

Today I got up and I had another great breakfast at the Marriott.  After that we drove to Malibu State park.  There, we went on a hike to the old M*A*S*H TV show site.  The TV site is currently about 40 years old!   When we were at the beginning of the hike I was really mad because I thought that it would not be that cool, but as we got closer to the TV site it got better and better.  At the site we saw lots of ambulances and we saw the sign that they showed every time at the beginning of the show.   After we saw the site we started to go back to the car.  On the way back we stopped at a bridge that was nice and shady so we could eat our oranges.  While we were on the bridge we found out that our cousin Ryan will come out to Utah and Colorado with us.  We are really excited about this.   After the 5 mile hike we drove back to the hotel and got ready for the Dodgers game.  We went to the game with Chris and mom!  While we were at the game I just sat down and watched.  After about 2 hours it got a little bit boring, so we went on a walk around the stadium.  After we went on the walk the game was almost over, so I finished watching it even though Mom wanted to leave. The Dodgers won 9-2, and Dad said that they are playing much better than the Phillies right now.  After that we said bye to Chris and we went back to the Marriott.  I am glad we finally got to see Chris and now I will miss him.  I finally got to bed at 12:05.  I had a very tiring and exciting day.
