We went to Yosemite National Park

Today I got up while dad was driving. The drive was 4 hours and it covered about 190 miles.  Once we got to Yosemite we drove to the Visitors Center.  Since this National Park is so big we had to drive 30 minutes to the Visitors Center!  At the Visitors Center we got our JR Ranger books.  After that we went to our campsite and got our bikes off of the bike rack.  Then we rode back to the Visitors Center.  At the visitors center we found out about all of the ranger programs.  Next we went back to the RV and ate dinner.  Soon after that we went back for another bike ride.  On the way back we got really excited and we quickly went in front of dad.  Soon, we stopped in front of a bridge and we found out that we were lost.  Emma was crying and I was really scared so I asked someone where the campsite was.  Right about when the people were about to tell us where it was, we saw Dad.   He was really upset with us and said that we were in big trouble because we went ahead of him, and this is the second time. We got a big consequence: no movies, I-pod, I-pad, or computer (games) for the rest of the month of May.  Once we got back to the RV we went to bed.

Today we went on a couple of hikes in Yosemite National Park

Today I woke up and we went on a hike.  The hike took us to Yosemite Falls, the tallest waterfall in the US.  The hike was really easy, and it took us about 5 minutes.  After that we went on a more strenuous hike to the half dome.  The hike that we went on was really steep and tiring, but there were great views of the half dome.  The half dome is basically a bid dome with one side that is cut off. On the hike I had to be really careful because there was sand on the rocks and I could really easily slip.  Since the hike was really steep and tiring it made the hike seem more like 4 miles when it was only 2 mile.  Once we got to the overlook of half dome we looked out at the view, and I ate an orange and a snack bar. After we were done, we started to go down the mountain.  The way down the mountain was a lot easier because it not wasting much energy.  Once we got down the mountain we went on a ranger guided bear walk that was 1 hour long.  On the walk I learned that there used to be a lot of black bears in California, but later they all left California and started moving up towards the higher, cooler states.  Next, we went back to the RV and we ate dinner.  Then we went on a bike ride around the valley.  After the bike ride we went to bed.  I had a great day.

Today we went on a hike to Vernal Falls

Today I got up and we went on a hike to Vernal Falls.  The hike was nice because it was paved and we were hiking by a river.  When we were in the middle of the trail we started going up steep wet steps. When we started going up the wet steps we got all wet.  At first it felt really good being wet, but after a little bit I became cold and it did not feel very good anymore.  The view going up the trail was really spectacular because to my left was a huge waterfall that was soaking me and to my right there were big trees.  When I looked down I felt really sad because for the first time in a long time I saw nice long fresh grass, and there a rainbow. This made me sad because it reminded me of looking at the pictures of us in Austria, where there was nice long green grass, and I miss seeing that.  Once we got to the end of the hike I noticed that I was above the waterfall, and I had a whole different view of it.  When I was looking down at it, when I was at the top the waterfall looked wide and short, but when I looked at it from underneath the waterfall looked skinny and tall. After that we started heading back.  Once we finished the hike we went to the Visitors Center and became official JR Rangers at Yosemite national park.  Then we had an ice cream.  After we ate that we went back to the RV and ate dinner. Then we went to bed.   I had a great day.

Today I woke up, and we went to see the Giant Sequoias in the southern part of Yosemite National Park. When we got to the Giant Sequoias, we went on a 5 mile hike. On the hike I learned that the Sequoia trees could be 250 to 300 feet tall. Also, they can live up to 3,000 years old and their root system is 2-6 feet. I think that that is so amazing that such a shallow root system con hold up a super tall tree.   When I started the hike I was pretty surprised that we were walking up a steep trail, because I thought that it would be flat.  I was a little bit disappointed when I was on the hike and all I saw was burnt trees, however I understand that the park rangers need to set fires in order for the trees to reproduce.  When there is a fire the heat from it opens the pine cones on the sequoia trees and when the pine cones open they let the seeds fall out. On one of the signs on the side of the trail, we found out that we were going to a museum. When we got to the museum we stopped for a snack, and it was really good.  Then we hiked a little further to a fallen tree, called the fallen tree tunnel.  When we were at the fallen tree tunnel we climbed all over it.   There, Dad got really good pictures of us climbing on the root system, and in the tunnel.  While we were at the tree tunnel I really thought about how I liked Redwoods National park a lot better because there we saw a lot more tree forts.  After we climbed the fallen tree tunnel we turned around.  On our way back we saw a lot of pink flowers.  We got really lucky and saw a butterfly on one of them.  The pink flowers were really sticky, and spikey.  Once we got back to the RV we ate lunch, and then drove to our campsite. The drive was about 2 hours.  Then, when we got to the campsite we ate dinner, and then went to bed.
