Today I had an exciting day. We went on a 15 mile bike ride in the Everglades and then we went to Biscayne National Park where we completed another Junior Ranger Program.
We went on the bike ride first. We had to go to the Shark Valley Visitor Center which is where the bike path starts and ends. On the first half of the bike ride we saw 142 alligators, and lots of them were babies. They were really cool because they all huddled together and they swam very slow and in groups. We also saw so many cool birds and turtles. My favorite bird was the Blue Heron. I liked this bird because it is the biggest bird in the Everglades and I liked the way the legs hang off the back of the body when it flies. When we got to the 7.5 mile point of our ride, we climbed a winding, spiral tower so we could see the Everglades from above. I liked this view better because it gave me a better perspective of the Everglades. When we got back down to the bottom of the tower we rode the rest of the way back. As we were riding back I realized that this side of the ride looked more like a desert than a place where alligators live.
I also learned how to ride my bike with no hands, which I can do it really long if the wind isn't blowing. When we finished the bike ride we went to Biscayne National Park. We had to drive 1.5 hours to get there. Since this is a park where you do most of the thing in the water, our options were limited since we did not have much time. When we got there we saw lots of cool fish of the dock, my favorite was the 'bumble-bee’ fish. I liked this fish because it was small and it was easy to see and it looked really cool. I really liked all of the other fish but they didn’t come out as much as the bumblebee fish. When we got back to the RV we drove to Disney World. I had a really fun day.
