March 20 (by Katelyn)

Today I went to the Everglades

Today Dad woke up and dad drove to the Everglades. Since Dad woke up at about 4:00 in the morning, I was not awake during the ride and I don't know what was going on.  When I got to the Everglades we went outside and went on a two hour bike ride.   I really disliked the bike ride because it went really slow and it was not very scenic.  During the bike ride we stopped at many places and we learned a little about Everglades City. After the bike ride we watched a movie on sea turtles.  I learned that the green sea turtle lays its eggs under the sand and sometimes it takes 3 days for the babies just to dig out of the hole.  Then we went to our campsite. At the campsite we had a little party.  Next we went fishing I had no luck catching any fish, but Madison caught a baby stingray.  I had a great day.

Today we went to Everglades and Big Cypress National Park

Today I woke up and went to Everglades National park. At Everglades National park I went outside because we had to go on a canoe trip.  After we got into the water we paddled out.  A little bit later winds picked up and Madison and Grammy did not know how to steer the boat so they were spinning in the water and the Grumpy Ranger told us that they had to go back.   After that we told Madison and Grammy that they had to go back but Grammy and another lady switched canoes!  Since they switched canoes we went back out, but they spun out of control again. Since they spun out of control we had to go back because the winds were going to get worse and it would keep getting harder and harder to paddle.  After we got back to the shore a volunteer told us that she would take us on a walk. On the walk we saw many things.  One cool thing that we saw was the seed that goes inside a morocco.  The seed grows inside a little prickly plant and that is what you can use to make a morocco.  Another thing that saw was butterflies.  My favorite butterflies were the ones that had a lot little white dots on their wings. After the walk we ate lunch and left the Everglades to go to Big Cypress National Park.  At big Cypress National Park we got our Jr. Ranger badges.  Then we went on a scenic drive.  On the scenic drive I saw a ton of alligators and birds.  One of the coolest birds I saw was a little white bird that kept craning its neck.  After that I went to a boardwalk where you could see alligators from above.  It was really cool because the alligators were so still and then they just jumped into the water to eat something. Another cool thing that I saw was a school of big two feet fish.  After we went to the boardwalk we ate dinner and went to bed. I had a tiring day.

Your canoe ride, Madison, sounds like when my dad and I tried to take a canoe out one time.... we kept going in circles and got stuck in the middle of the lake! It took FOREVER for us to get back to shore! :) Love the vests too... what an awesome memory you guys will all have!!!

Katelyn, you made it sound like Madison and I were caught in a whirlpool! We were just going a little crooked!! The winds were really strong that day weren't they?! Fun day!
