Today we went into Mexico
Today I had a pretty uneventful day. First I went to the playground and played basketball. After that we played on the playground. Next we went on a 2 and a half hour drive Amistad National Recreation area, in Texas, on the border of Mexico. Once we got to Amistad we went to a dam called the Amistad dam, where we crossed into Mexico.
When I stepped into Mexico I got really excited because now I can say that I have been in Mexico, and I can also say that I have been in every country in north America!! After that we drove to our campsite. When we were driving to our campsite we saw the new border patrol at the beginning of the dam. When we were driving past the station Dad said that once the station opens you will not be able to step into Mexico like we did without a passport.
When Dad said that, I felt really lucky. Once we got to the campsite I went swimming. After that we took a shower and went to bed. I had a pretty relaxing day.April 15 - by Madison
Today we went for a boat ride and a swim. Since it was really windy in the morning we went to the visitor center to get our junior ranger badge and watch the movie that was playing. We got our badge first and then we watched the movie. I was really surprised that the movie was 30 minutes long because usually the movies are 10-15 minutes long. During the movie I learned that Lake Amistad is the cleanest lake in Texas and the 3rd
largest lake that is on the border of Mexico and America. After we watched the movie, we went to go kayaking and swimming in Lake Amistad. We went to a little cove where we swam and played in the water for about 30 minutes. What I really enjoyed doing here was collecting the mud balls with algae on them.
After I collected a lot of them I would squish them into a ball and then throw them on Katelyn and Emma. I mostly threw them at Katelyn because she wouldn't get mad at me if I threw them at her bathing suit. After we were done playing here we went to another little cove where I probably did the scariest thing in my life! We kayaked over to the cove and then Katelyn said she would swim over to 'that island’. ‘That island’ was probably one hundred meters away (4 laps), but they were the scariest laps I ever did! They were scary because there are supposedly huge fish in these waters. I mean 4-5 five feet long, and if one was really hungry it would come up to the top and eat me.
Even though it probably wouldn’t eat me there could be a dumb fish that could eat me. After we did this we went back to the RV and them went back to the campground and then went to bed. I had a fun and scary day.
