Omaha, Nebraska

(by Madison)

Today we are in Omaha, Nebraska.  We went to the Omaha Zoo.  In some of the ratings we read, people said the Omaha Zoo was even better than the San Diego Zoo, so our expectation was very high and we thing that it will be very good.  We got there at 10am, and the parking lot was already almost filled.  The ticket lines were really long and moved very slow, so we had to wait a long time.  My Dad said that it was a poor design.

The first place that we went was a place called the Desert Dome.  It seemed very roomy when we went in, but when we got on the path to see the animals it was so crowded that we couldn't even squeeze through sideways!  All of the animals were so cute, but when we got to the area where the bats were it was so STINKY!  It was so bad that I just wanted to leave, but it was so crowded that I couldn't get out.  There were so many strollers and so many really BIG people trying to fit through a 3 foot wide door, and there was a huge line with people getting upset.  It was really poorly designed, and it made a bad impression right at the start of the zoo.

Next we went to the IMAX theater where we watched 'Born to be Wild'.  It was an excellent movie that was about 2 people who helped orphaned wild animals.  The first lady helps orangutans and the second helps elephants.  They raise the babies that need help because poachers are killing their mothers.  They raise the animals until they can live on their own.   Lot of money goes into this because they drink an average of a gallon of milk every day!

When we walked around outside, I really liked many of the animals, but I did not like the train that went around the whole zoo with a whistle that made such a loud, high pitched, squealing sound which bothered me and must also bother the poor animals.  It also seemed like some animals like the bears that need space don't have any, and smaller animal that don't need so much have lots of space.

Overall, I did have a nice day at the zoo and there were lots of nice exhibits.  However, the zoo did not live up to the high expectations and I think they need to fix some of these things.

You are going to have write a letter to the zoo so they can hire Mr. Beachamp's firm to redesign the exhibits!
