Astoria, OR
Our first day in Oregon was one with fantastic weather. It was sunny and in the 70's, which was a nice improvement from the mountain weather we have been seeing. We arrived at the Lewis & Clark National Historic Park at Fort Clatsop, OR by mid morning. This location is a recreation of the winter camp of Lewis and Clark in 1805.
We started the visit at Fort Clatsop with a hike out to Netul Landing, which was 2 miles round trip. There we spent time completing the Junior Ranger books and hoping to see the reported bald eagle that is in the area, to no avail! We had a brisk walk back, had lunch at the RV, and then returned to the Fort to observe some reenactments and demonstrations.
We arrived at the Astoria KOA at about 5pm. This is probably the nicest campground we have stayed at, and the girls loved it. It had all of the best KOA ammenities, plus evening activities for kids. The kicker is the free pancakes in the morning, so this campground is clearly a hit!
