Whistler, BC

Whistler really shows the benefits of hosting the last Winter Olympics. It is very well developed and accessible by foot and bike.   We rode our bikes from our campground to the downtown village, and it had a very nice feeling to it.  The way the village combined the modern shops with the reminders from the Olympics was quite good, and you could almost feel the Olympic environment.

We walked through the main village first, and then continued on to the Upper Village, which is where the main ski lifts are.   It is possible to ride the lifts up to the top, however we stayed at the bottom where they had an Action Zone with 'rides' ranging from a mountain luge, bungee trampoline, and a trapeze over a giant air bag.   We wound up spending the better part of the afternoon there, and the girls had a really good time.   It was nice to see Katelyn excel on both the trampoline and the trapeze, where she was able to do more flips than anyone else...on the trampoline she was able to do a triple back flip, which nobody else was able to match.   Emma was not too far behind, doing a double flip, but she was not as comfortable as Katelyn.  They even got me up, and I also managed a double back flip, although not overly graceful!!

On the trapeze, Katelyn again did great, and was the only one able to do a back-flip off of it.  It took her several tries to get the hang of it, but then she did it.  Emma did not even try this one!  It was great to see Katelyn excel and lead the pack, because she often feels that she lags behind athletically.

Madison tried both the trampoline and the trapeze, but was not confident and did not feel comfortable.   It just wasn't her thing!  She preferred the luge, and we all had several good runs.  Madison and I had the fastest time coming down, so she was excited about that.

There was also a market there in the afternoon, and we sampled some pretty tasty treats! We got a big bag of Kettle Corn, some raw peas in the pod, which the girls loved, and some blueberries, blackberries, and raspberries.

Finally we rode back to the main village and had dinner, and then went to DQ for some ice cream. We stopped at a playground, and then continued back to the campground. The girls played outside for a bit, and then everyone came inside and crashed.
