Munising Falls, by Emma

Today I woke up and it was FREEZING COLD!  It was 45 degrees.  I was all bundled up in my blankets, but because my sisters were playing video games they woke me up.  I ate Honey Nut Cheereos.  Then we went to see the Miners Castle rock formation.  Miners Castle was sooo cool because there was a hole at the bottom and whenever a wave hit it, water would come splashing out of the hole.  Here is a picture of Miners Castle.

Then we went back to the RV and drove to Munising Falls.   This was smaller than Niagara Falls, but my sister Katelyn said she liked it more.  It was very pretty, and there were not too many people.  We got to climb on the rocks all around the waterfall which was fun.   We were also supposed to go to Miners Falls, but we missed the turn!  I was happy because I go to suck my Jawbreaker from Mackinac Island.

On our way back to our campground we stopped at a pizza restaurant.  I got Root Beer and cheese pizza that was so good.  When we got back to the campground we read, wrote in our journal, and went to bed.  We are going on a boat cruise to see the Pictured Rocks in the morning that will be fun.

Pictured Rock Cruise, by Madison

Today I woke up and got ready to go on a cruise to see all of the rock formations at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore.   When we got to the entrance I knew it was going to be an exiting ride.  The first stop was Jasper Falls.  The falls was hard to spot because it was hidden .  Next we saw Miners Castle.  It doesn't look like a castle because the water broke it down.  Then we saw some arches and rock formations.  First we saw a rock formation called Indian Head.   It took me a while to figure out how it was an Indian head.  It doesn't always look like an Indian, our caption said that some people say it looks like Elvis or Lady Gaga.  Then we saw a a rock called the broken flower vase.  I liked this one because it has a tree at the top that is hanging off.   In the rock formations their were lots of different colors: red, light orange, blue, brown, black, and white. My favorite color was blue.  As we were coming back the caption let us sit at the front and steer the boat.  Also a park ranger told us a little about the lumber jacks that used to work in this area.  Here are some facts that I learned: they had to get up at 4 every morning to cut down wood, and they had to be quiet during dinner.  Here are some slang words that they used: are you a Michigan jumper or a Wisconsin sticker - a jumper one who stayed in Michigan a sticker someone who stayed worked in Michigan a couple days at a time.

Here is  a poem that William Shepard wrote about Michigan when he came down from Canada:

Michigan

Half circles with your island seas
Bordered by beaches, bluffs and trees
Crossed and re-crossed by thousands of streams
Fair as a fines of lovers dreams

Hill topped and volleyed and fertile plained
Fruited and flowers and richly grained
Acres of forest and miles of shore
Filled with romance of pioneer lore;

Second to none in your natural grace
Breeding the best of the modern race
Century old as modern race
Taking your old place with the nations race

Richest of gifts of the Gods to man
Wonderful, beautiful Michigan

After he was done talking about the lumber jacks he showed us a 120 year old light house that is no longer in use.   I had a good day on the ride.
