We awoke in Mackinac City to another day of rain, and the forecast shows rain for the next 2 days. We packed and took it easy in the morning, and departed late morning for a short walk in Mackinac City before heading north into Canada for 1 short night.
The walk around Mackinac City was actually nice. We took some pictures down on Lake Huron with the Old Mackinac Lighthouse as well as the Mackinac Bridge in the background. Let me tell you, that is a long bridge when driving in the fog! We stopped for Fish & Chips, with some genuine Lake Michigan whitefish, and it was outstanding. I had to get Katelyn & Emma a veggie sandwich at Subway first, and then told Madison that she had to try the fish...she wanted Chicken Strips which is about the only thing she will eat. After much debate, she said the fish was "Okay", which translates to it being very good. So picky!
We drove a little over an hour to Canada, and this was probably not my best choice in the planning process. If I had it to do again, I would stick to the drive along Lake Superior, and spend an extra night somewhere. It did not help that the rain was restricting us, but we really are not able to go outside. Lesson learned for the future.
Our 2 exciting events, which you see are not very exciting were: 1) passing through customs...the questions all make the girls feel very uncomfortable, and 2) buying milk in Canada, which comes in plastic bags rather than cartons. I have never seen this before, and it had us all laughing for a good 15 minutes!
Okay, will depart for Munising, Michigan in the morning and hope for dryer days to come!!
