Niagara Falls (by Katelyn)

Today we went to Niagara Falls.  At Niagara Falls we did many things.  Let me tell you about what we did.

First we went to the ticket center.  At the ticket center we got a pass that allowed us to do everything at the park.  We then went to an area to pick-up free water shoes.  I was the only one in my family who liked them. Once we got our water shoes we were able to go to the 'Cave of the Winds.'

The 'Cave of the Winds' is a wooden deck structure that lets you walk right up next to Niagara Falls.  In 'Cave of the Winds' there is a part called the 'Hurricane' where you get 10 feet to Niagara.   It was really cool and we got lots of pictures.  On the way out it was really smelly because all of the sea gulls.  There were over 100,000 sea gulls.  I am not kidding, it said it on the sign!

After 'Cave of the Winds', we went back to the RV to eat lunch.  We had pasta salad.  We then went back to Niagara to go on the 'Maid of the Mist' boat ride.   During the ride we went right into the Horseshoe Falls and American Falls.  The guide told us that every year the Native Americans would send one of their women down as a sacrifice to their God.  The mist from the waterfall was supposed to resemble the tears of the woman.  So that is why it was called 'Maid of the Mist' boat ride.  I think that is sad.

I also learned a lot today.  One thing I learned was that 75,000 gallons of water go down the falls every second.  I also learned that the falls was made out of 3 water falls – 1) the American Falls, 2) the Horseshoe Falls, and 3) the Bridal Falls.  The last thing that I learned was that nature was the only thing that made Niagara Falls.  I hope that I can go back again someday.

After we left Niagara Falls we went into Ontario, Canada.  We were cutting through Canada on our way to Michigan, and it was the shortest way to get there.  In Canada we had to go through a place called Customs.  There was a man who was staring at us.  It was creepy because he asked us lots of questions.  When we went back into the USA we also had to go through Customs, but the man there was much nicer.

Thanks for the update. You are doing and seeing so much! Glad that you are keeping journals so that you'll be able to remember the details of this trip forever! You are really covering a lot of ground and doing lots of cool stuff. I especially liked the info about the Native Americans sending a woman from the tribe over the falls as a sacrifice to their god. I had never heard of that before.

Happy and safe travels . . .
