On the drive from Airlie Beach to Mackay we were dwarfed by the fields of sugar cane with Mackay being the centre of the largest sugar producing region in Australia, with the largest bulk sugar facilities in the world. The roads are a height of industry with the trucks and tractors carting the sugar cane to the awaiting trains. The sugar train lines zig zagged all the way from Proserpine to Mackay.
Watching the TV last night they were advertising the Superboat Championships in Mackay. We have seen these boats in Geelong a couple of times which we enjoyed immensely. The Mackay Tinnie and Tackle Show was also on and we spent an enjoyable day at the marina.
The weather has been a bit colder today, still shorts but the wind is quiet cold when out of the sun, just a taste of what is to come I guess.
