Where I stayed
Copper City Riverside Caravan Park
We spent a couple of enjoyable days touring around Mt Isa.
Mt Isa is the world's largest singe producer of copper, silver, lead and zinc and also claims to be the rodeo capital of Australia. The footpaths in the town centre have plaques acknowledging rodeo champions embedded in the concrete.
The city lookout provides a 360 degree view of the town and is a great place to have a picnic and just relax. We also checked out the hospital where Paula Kelly worked and went to Boydies pub, now renamed the Red Earth Hotel, which has undergone a huge upgrade, so they told us!
The temperature at night has dropped since leaving Katherine. We had to put the doona on the bed for the first time since leaving SA. Apparently it got down to 2 degrees here the night before we arrived. The days are beautiful and every morning we wake up to a blue sky with no clouds, still only wearing shorts.
Tomorrow we intend to free camp somewhere along the way up to Karumba, hopefully a bit warmer at night.
