When we arrived at Norseman we had to make the decision whether to go straight to Esperance or to drive to Kalgoorlie and then back to Esperance. We decided to stay in Norseman and make a day trip to Kalgoorlie, leaving the van at the park. In hindsight we probably would have been better towing the van to Kalgoorlie and staying a few days rather than try to take it all in in one day. The open cut mine is just unbelievable. Unfortunately we missed the tour but spent some time just taking in the view and watching the enormous machinery. These huge trucks carry 225 tonnes of ore in one load. One tyre is worth $26,000.
In 1903 Kalgoorlie had 93 hotels and 8 breweries, what a place to live!
The only downside we could find was you had to pay 35 cents to have a pee, well 25 cents if you are a pensioner. Jodie, you will be pleased to know we waited until we were at the service station and did it for free.
We finally had to leave to get back to Norseman before dark but really could have spent a few days in the area.

Hi, sounds like you are having a great trip and have seen so much already. We found Kalgoorlie really interesting too. It wasn't originally on our list of places to go but we are so glad we went there now. Make sure when you go to Esperence you go out to Cape Le Grande National Park...great place. Hope you are both well, all is fine here. Same old, same old. Enjoy.
Hi Wendy & Ray, Looks fantastic! We are so going to do that one day. I've never wished I was older (or not for a long time anyway) because I can't wait. Good luck to you. Mum says hi (not that she knows how to). Hope if you go through Karratha it is when Wally is there because believe me - he'd love it. Stay safe, Anne xx
Hi Annie,
Great to hear from you. As we were going through the Cape Le Grande National Park today and Pensioners only paid $5 compared to $11, I said to Ray these are the benefits of being old we just saved $6.
This is the best thing we have ever done, it is fantastic, the people we have met along the way are so interesting and is it great to hear where they have been and where they are going. We will ring as we get closer to Wally, we would love to catch up.
Hi Tan,
Have had a great day at Cape Le Grand, thanks for recommending it. Love Esperence, we booked in for 2 nights and had not even set up camp when we went back and booked in for another night. We have met some great people, wished they were going our way but I am sure we will met many more. Love to all xxxxx
