Flag of Belgium  , The Ardennes,
Sunday, April 18, 2010

Leaving Obernai it was a leisurely drive through rolling hills dotted with various small French towns, whether Autobahn or secondary roads the scenery did not change much and nothing sparked our interest so into Luxembourg.   Major piece of geographical embarassment, off who knows where to and ended up being a great error as we travelled through some beautiful hills and wooded areas, very, very nice.   All to soon we were through Luxembourg (small country again) and now in Belgium.   Stopped in Bastogne, remembering the name from somewhere but couldn't remember why, the memorial Sherman tank in the town square should have been a give away.  For the history buffs Bastogne was a central place of the Battle of the Ardennes which later became the Battle of the Bulge.  Memorials to Patton / McAuliffe and the 101st Airborne are very evident.
