Day 32: Thursday, 30 January

We left Leon at 10am and arrived in Granada by lunchtime. Our first impressions were much more positive than Leon. The city appeared to be in more better repair and the was a much stronger cultural vibe. According to Lonely Planet 'most people fall in love with Granada but leave their heart in Leon'...we shall see but the latter certainly isn't true for us!

We checked into Oasis Hostel and then headed for a stroll. Canada had recommended a place called Garden Cafe for lunch so we set off in search of it and it didn't disappoint...great choice!

Jen, with the Lonely Planet in hand, took us on a walking tour of Granada. A few church's, Kathy's Waffle House and two irish bars later we got our first view of Lake Nicaragua, the worlds 20th largest lake at 8,200km2.

Nothing to report from the evening, we just chilled back in the hostel.

Day 33: Friday, 31 January

We were leaving for San Juan Del Sur at 1pm so we decided to use the morning and head back to Lake Nicaragua for a tour. Following the eruption of the Mombacho volcano, 365 Islands were formed in the lake, now known as the Islets of Granada. We hired a boat to take us out on a tour of the islands. Our little tour guide, no more than about 14 years old was so cute trying to drop in the odd English word into a sentence so we would understand! Many of the islets are privately owned by wealthy Nicaraguans and Americans. Some of the islets have hotels and restaurants. The tour was really nice and sure we each got a flower from our tour guide!!

It was time then to get back to the hostel, collect the bags and get on yet another bus but this time it was headed for the beach :)
