We got to the Jamison Factory and hung out in the guest shop / entrance hall as we waited for our 4pm tour. It was a great chance to check out the unique gifts inside the store and to see the several different exhibits in the entrance hall that offered an insight into the Jamison Experience.
4pm came and we began our tour. We sat down and enjoyed a short flick on the history of Jamison Whiskey and the man who started it all, John Jamison. This was followed by an in depth tour of the old factory. We learned, from start to finish, how Jamison is made. It is a pretty complicated procedure. The main thing that separates Jamison from other Whiskey's is that Jamison is distilled 3 times while Johnny Walker (Scottish) is distilled 2 times, and Jack Daniels (American) is only distilled once.
Upon coming to the end of our tour a few of us were asked to participate in a taste contest between the 3 Whiskey's. I, of course, was selected. They brought us into the bar at the end of the tour and gave us each 3 small shots and asked to pick our favorites. I don't think anyone picked anything but the Jamison haha. We all then received a complimentary mixed drink which was much more enjoyable for me. We received certificates that we are official taste testers of Jamison (remember that when I come home, my American friends.)
We all left the Factory feeling very satisfied with our decision to go and a few of us feeling pretty "good" after the testing and complimentary drinks. It was a great experience. We took a bus home and stopped at a local pub to watch the Pats play the Jets. Jets won, and my New England friends were less then thrilled
