5 days traveling through wine country....a limo to whisk us around to five vineyards each day....perfect weather, wine, and food. Why aren't we living there? Ah yes...money :)
Wine country is a 90 minute to two hour drive north of San Francisco and you have to decide which part you want to camp out in. We chose Sonoma, a quieter...more laid back town versus nearby Napa that tends to be very crowded and very touristy. I had BIG ambitions to see a lot... but alas, it's impossible to do everything in your first trip. Besides traffic, wine tastings which are meant to be savored...not gulped down in efforts to see as much as possible, your body dictates how much site-seeing you'll be doing. Starting wine tastings at 10am, out and about in the hot sun, with only crackers, cheese, and sliced meats to keep you satisfied...after five, six hours of the same routine, you're ready to crash back at your hotel by 5pm. Don't get me wrong, it's a fabulous time, but you have to pace yourself, knowing that you'll be back to Napa/Sonoma sometime in the future (hopefully soon) to visit the other wineries.
Definitely purchase a map of the area so you understand how the two counties are laid out. We hired a limo to take us around (by far the best way to travel and very affordable) - as compared to a potential DUI after several wine tastings. Plus..enjoy wine country...let someone else drive!
Pictures are included and I made some comments on half of them as you click through. Enjoy!
