This is just a bit of trivia for anyone who is familiar with the the South Shore and Babylon line of the LIRR.  Amazingly, this entire stretch from Houston to San Antonio is like going along one big, four hour stretch of Sunrise Highway.  The track goes on a straight, flat route alongside a highway that is a continuous string of traffic lights, gas stations and retail stores.  I feel like I keep seeing Valley Stream, Lynbrook, Rockville Centre, Baldwin, Freeport, Merrick, Bellmore, Wantagh, Seaford, Massapequa, Massapequa Park, Amityville, Copiague, Lindenhurst and Babylon (I may have missed one) but for four hours! - enough already!  Just some train trivia.

I have an uncle here in San Antonio, my Uncle Joey, my father's brother.  I was thinking of maybe seeing if I could stop to see him, but the timing of when this train gets here 11:00 PM, is not great and sadly, he basically chose over the years to remove himself from his family contacts.  I would like to talk with him and maybe get some perspective on my dad from this vantage point now after all these years, but it is not to be.

We have a three hour stop in San Antonio to change crews and to attach two cars from the Texas Eagle which joins this line here.  The conductor says it is OK to walk around the area even though it will be the middle of the night and there is a Denny's near the station, so I may go get a pecan pie and some milk and then go to sleep for the night. This is fun.
