What started out as a three week Mazamas adventure with a very dear friend, quickly morphed into a three month adventure of traveling and volunteering. I will start in Lima, Peru and end in Quito, Ecuador. After months of planning, I'm down to the day. I no longer tell people I leave on Sept 8th... now it's this coming Saturday!

As of yesterday, I finally got all the checkpoints nailed down:

Cusco, Peru 9/8 - 10/1
Huaraz, Peru 10/15 - 10/29
Galapagos Islands (Baltra) 11/14 - 11/21

Quito, Ecuador 11/21 - 11/27
  • Volunteer photography project (details still TBD) with the South American Explorers Club

By this time next week, I will be in Cusco, Peru. There's still so much to do between now and then. It doesn't feel real yet. I suspect it will become quite real the moment I turn in my work badge in less than 24 hours.

With the pending transition feeling more like a fantastic tale I've been telling and not at all like anything based in reality, I have managed to spend considerable time grounding myself (come to find out I like quite... a lot!).

Over the long and tumultuous recording of my self reflection album (which includes the hit singles:

Struggling: Where's Your Head at, Yo?,  Resisting: Just Say "Uncle" Already!
and the recent chart topping, Questioning: Why are you winking and pointing at me like that, Ryan Lochte?), I have been continuously blown away by all the support and love I've received along the way. It definitely came in handy during the multiple "oh sh*t moments I've had. And I'm sure there will be a few more before I fly out on Saturday.

Earlier today I found a quote by an author named Jarod Kintz which speaks to my current experience exactly: "Everything I've ever done, ever thought, ever experienced, and ever felt, has led me up to this moment in my life. And after accumulating and culminating it, all I can say is, "Ahhhh!

Random side note: I am unfamiliar with Mr. Kintz but at a glance, his titles seem interesting. Especially this one: $3.33 (the title is the price). If you get to it before me, let me know how it is!

Anyway, gratitude doesn't quite capture my sentiment, but it'll have to do for now as language can be limiting. I'm sure some of my friends secretly think I sound like a broken record but I'm really appreciative of everything and everyone in my life. BTW, I can still be appreciative AND keep it real, b*tches! HA!

Speaking of real... time to get back to organizing, planning and not FREAKING out about leaving the life I've know behind.

Thanks for taking the time to read this humble post from a first time blogger.

Cheers!
-Kellie

PS My "stretch" goal: If I can inspire one person in some capacity along the way, then I'll consider this blog a success.
