Day 68
Today I attended Study Australia's 'Sydney Outing’ and went to the horse races! I got all dressed up and grabbed a bus to the Royal Randwick Raceway for the 2010 Autumn Carnival! I met up first with my friend from my apartment complex and then we met up with two of the Study Australia staff. Together we did our best to decipher the odds board and look at the horses to pick some winners! One of the highlights of the day for me came when a horse by the name of ‘Happy Hippie’ won the first race! (I took it as a sign from a Pondicherry sister…We miss you Hippie! RIP)
As the day went on we met up with more and more Study Australia students and continued to try our luck at the betting counter. It is entertaining how much more interesting the races get when you’ve got money riding on them haha! In the end I think I did ok continuing on the long standing Byard family tradition and reputation of a day at the races. The point being that I went home with more money than I came with! (even if it was only two dollars more hahah)
In addition to watching the races- there was plenty of entertainment in watching everyone in attendance. The ladies in their elaborate fascinators, the men in their suits, and the Kid’s carnival made it quite the cultural experience!
