We are on our way!

I am typing this from 35,862 feet above the state of Kansas while traveling 518 miles per hour.  You might ask, "Mike, how do you know you are above Kansas?   For that matter, how do you know your air speed and altitude?"   Let me answer these burning questions for you.  Jet Blue has Direct TV built into the back of every seat.  One of the channels provides you with a Google Map showing your exact location, air speed, and altitude.  Modern technology is quite amazing.

Now let me take you back to 4:45am when the trip officially started.  We were all up and out of the house by 5:30am.  Of course there was a minor crisis, because what would a vacation be without one.  Last night the little fish tank filter quit working.  Nothing you can do about that at 11pm.  At 5:15 am Sarah and I packed her Guppies up to go to the Police Station where they will spend the next couple weeks in the fish tank Dexter has there.  Sarah decided they were going to learn to be police fish.  She said some were going to be detectives while others were going to regular patrol fish.  Minor crisis averted.  Life is good.

We were at the airport by a little after 6am for a 7:45 flight.  We cleared security and were at our gate by 6:45am.  All in all I am not sure it could have gone much smoother.  We had a quick breakfast, and then it was time to board.  The highlight of this part of the trip was the look on Sarah's face.  You could tell she was so excited.  She had that look of amazement that only a 12 year old can get when they are experiencing something like this for the for the first time.  She had that beautiful devilish grin as we walked through the terminal.  Her head was on a swivel trying to take in all of the sights and sounds at the same time.

As I type this Sarah is watching the cartoon channel and coloring.  Let me digress here for just a second and throw out some major props to Peg.  It struck me as I am typing this you crossed the pond more than once with two girls much younger than Sarah on a MAC flight some twenty plus years ago.  No DVD players, I-Pods, Direct-TV, and what is more it was a MAC flight.  So major kudos to you and Wayne.  I truly don't know how you did it.   God Bless You!

Pat is working on one of those 5 Samurai Sudoku.  I don't know how she does those things.  They confuse me to no end.  But then I am a man, I don't read directions because they confuse me.   She has the patience of a saint doing those things.  From the looks of it she is about done.  Oh yeah besides Direct TV, Jet Blue provides you with XM Radio which Pat is enjoying.  Seems they are in the mood to play the Beatles this morning which she is enjoying more.  I have looked over at her screen 3 times and seen Beatles songs,  Taxman ,  Strawberry Fields, and some other one I forgot.

Location update:  Kansas/Oklahoma border, altitude 35960, speed 513mph.  It amazes me that I can know that instantly.  As some of you may be aware I am a bit of a control freak.  Having this information makes me feel more in control for some reason.  I have no idea why, and it makes no rational sense, but it does.   If I ever start making sense with stuff like this then I may scare myself.

We are now are in the pan handle of Oklahoma heading due west to New Mexico, so I will sign off for now.

Type to you soon,

Mike, Pat, and Sarah.
