From the Basilica of the Annunciation to the River Jordan, this region is full of historical landmarks. The former is said to be where the Angel Gabriel announced to Mary she would give birth to Jesus
and the latter is where He was baptized by John the Baptist. Also of significance is St. Joseph's Church (occupying the site of Joseph's carpentry shop) and the town of Tiberias, known for many famous rabbis & birth of the grammatical system for the Torah.

One of my favorite areas was Capernaum, ancient home to Arabs, Christians and Jews. Ruins of the Romans are present, as is evidence of a large synagogue. St. Peter was believed to be from this village as well, and remains of his home have been identified by archeologists. It's on the sea and the views are fantastic!

Many miracles were reportedly performed within this area, and Pilgrims the world over seek truth, life and understanding here. In all, despite a certain level of commercialization, an air of spirituality remains.
