Designed By
When thinking about Italy you can't help yourself from thinking about design. Italy is known for her passions and she sure uses her 5 senses for getting the must of it. You can see it almost every where and in every thing; from beautiful products, art, architecture, fashion and even food, more then once I found my self stopping in front of an incredibly designed sandwich that pots you in a great conflict between pushing it in one piece with no mercy to hanging it on the wall for the sake of art, of course the taste is no less then it looks.

Driving on the highway from Rome to Viareggio is beautiful. With each mill that brings you more close to Tuscany the view changes from brown to green and small country houses start to appear. The Tuscany view, in my opinion, is one of the most amazing creations of nature, I'm sure that the Italian taste and appreciation did also well. On the way you cross many places that should get more attention such as Florence and Pisa, at least 2 days each. Getting to Viareggio from Rome took about 4-5 hr and I guess that if you skip 5 stops for coffee, 4 stops for toilet and 3 stops for sending SMS than you do it faster. Who said that you can't enjoy the way.

My first impression of Viareggio was not so good, it looked like an industrial city, with lots of factories, stores, tourists and very dirty water. In my second and dipper look I actually discovered dead fishes, plastic bags and oil inside the water. Eventually I found an interesting city that has a lot to say, her historical story and sites are beautiful and you can find a mixture of people such as locals, immigrants and tourists. One can easily divide Viareggio to small areas including the long promenade by the sea, hiking area, camping forest, old city, center, canal, port, fisher's anchorage, shipyards, industrial part and bicycle path which circles the city. The traffic is terrible so most visitors and locals are trying to use more the bikes or bicycles, it's also possible to rent one in the center. Or, you can borrow old, dusty- rusty bicycle from your sailing neighbors, guaranteed that no one will be interested to steal them and it's the only thing that is guaranteed.

Discovering new places in town can also happen when you find yourself saying that you have to take some pictures from the city and the next thing you're walking crazily every where with a map and tourist information catalog in a chase to see more as possible. Getting lost and taking your time, by the way, always gave me the best photos and experiences. That's how I found in Viareggio the Armani yacht, anchored almost scared, far from human eyes. Her design is impressive; it shows that some one thought about the general look so as the small details. A walking area on the deck was build especially for walking models. The crew, neither the less, was wearing designed by Armani uniform. No doubt that the impact is high, for me, I rather sail a small sailing yacht with old clothes designed by salty water and burning sun.
