we have arrived safe and sound in Rio after LONG flight. Our chauffeur picked us up from the airport, only 3 hours late....but he came in the end, and transported us safe and sound to our Youth Hostel, which appears to be nice. Breakfast is good anyway ---- chocolate cake and chocolate biscuits, apart from slight mishap mistaking coffee for hot chocolate.
Then....off to Christ the Redeemer Statue. Driver brought us up very very very steep hill to the top...saw monkeys!! (and nice views of rio too)
Then down teh steep hill, another bus journey (a`15 minute walk --- which was actually 2hours). some parrot watching by the beach, and 2 cable car journeys later, we found ourselves at the top of sugar loaf mountain on time to watch the sun set. Few too many clouds, but still pretty.
