Hello again to everyone back home and to our other relatives and friends following along from other locations. We hope you are all doing well!  We are falling a bit behind on our travel blogs.  This one is from Athens, Greece and our last European country of the trip.  Things are going good and we are having a great time seeing small parts of the world, tasting the foods, meeting the people and experiencing what the local people consider "normal lives".  Definitely seeing and tasting some weird, not so normal stuff to us and that is a lot of the fun of travelling!

After several weeks of non-stop travelling, we needed a bit of a pit stop and Greece was what the doctor ordered.  We started off in Athens , which had some neat things to see like the Acropolis, the Parthenon, the Theatre of Herodes and the Temple of Hephaestus but the main highlight for us was going to the U2 concert at the Olympic stadium.  The concert was awesome and we had a blast along with the other 80,000+ fans.  They played many of their old hits like “I Will Follow”, “A Beautiful Day”,  “Still Haven't Found What I’m Looking For” and “New Year’s Day” to name a few.  It was a neat experience as we had never been to an event with that many people.  Surprisingly, there were no police check points or security checks along the way into the concert and anybody could have walked in to the stadium with a gun or small weapon.

From Athens, it was off to the island of Santorini for 8 days of relaxation.  What a great place to hang out!  Thirty degree weather every day, fresh seafood, cheap beers, very friendly people and a laid back lifestyle.  Nearby were the “Black” and “Red” beaches, filled with an eyeful of nude bathers.  Some were more than an eyeful and in the consideration of others, need to put on some clothes!!  We rented a car for a couple of days to get around the island and we stayed one night in the north at Oia, to have a balcony with a great view of the sunset.  The island is known for its great sunsets and it did not disappoint us while we were there.  Another thing this Greek island (and some others) are famous for are the brilliant white buildings that make for great views along the steep hillsides and blue ocean water.  We got on a one day boat tour of the dormant volcano to the west of Santorini and another small island where you got to swim in the "Red" hotspring that leaks out muddy red water out into the ocean.  Pretty neat.

That is it.....short and sweet.  Hope everyone is doing great!  Next stop Dubai!

Meal of the week:  The freshly cooked (grilled or fried) squid that we ate on a few nights, along with Greek salad, rice and tzatziki sauce.  Close seconds were the Mousaka and the grilled octopus.  We had some great appetizers too like Saganaki (fried goat cheese) and stuffed vine leaves (Dolmathes).  The Dolmathes are served cold though which was different as they are served hot back home.  The Pistichio, a Greek pasta, was another dish we sampled.  All these dishes tasted a bit better accompanied with a glass of Santorini island red wine!
