Where I stayed
What I did
We left Forks after another yummy breakfast (waffles) and drove across Washington state to catch a ferry from Bainbridge Island to Seattle. The drive takes about 3 hours. The ferry ride was quick-only about a half hour. It was interesting to see how people who live around here commute to work by boat instead of a train. We had lunch on the ferry and there is a gift shop and bar, too, for people who are looking for a drink.
The weather is really warm and clear and not what we expected, which is good. After we got into Seattle, we decided to go over to the Space Needle, which is at Seattle Center. The line was really long so we bought tickets to go up later. In the meantime, we went to see the new EMP Museum, which is a cool music, movies, etc. museum. It's close by the Space Needle in a new building.
We started out in a sci-fi area. They displayed lots of thing from movies and shows like Star Wars and Star Trek. My favorite was the original Lightsaber. Connected to the sci-fi exhibit, was a exhibit on horror. There was a lot of memorabilia and I thought the "Alien" stuff was cool. My favorite part of the museum was the studio area on the top floor where you can play the drums, electric guitars and other instruments. You could even record your own music (I didn't do this but I would if I went back).
We went back to the Space Needle and the lines weren't as long so up we went. The views were great because the day was so clear. We went all around the outside and I was a little afraid to be so high up. The worst part was when we were ready to leave, it took almost an hour to get down on the elevator! Totally boring!
When we left downtown to go to our hotel near the airport, the GPS was completely confused and had us going the wrong way! Luckily we had a map and my parents figured it out without the GPS. The hotel is nice and even has a pool, but I didn't have time to swim. Dad and I went to a Jack in the Box to get sandwiches for dinner - my parents remembered this place from when they were kids, but haven't seen it in years. We got to watch some Olympics and saw Michael Phelps win another gold medal, which was cool.
