We left Mosquito Junction early this morning and on the way to the highway, we stopped to watch an elk eat alongside the road. Mom can't get elk and moose straight. Elk have antlers that keep growing, and look a lot different from moose. Moose antlers fall off, plus they are bigger and dark brown. I don't know why Mom can't remember.

The weather was sunny and clear. Most of the day was spent on the Icefields Parkway, which we drove from Banff to Jasper. They say that this is one of the most scenic drives in Canada and it was really nice. I thought the most beautiful spot was the view over Peyto Lake. The mountains were really pretty and the lake was a deep green color. The overlook was really crowded with kids on a bus trip. This is a popular place.

We had a few more hikes to see waterfalls and stuff, and then reached the Columbia Icefield which is the largest glacier in Canada. We explored and Dad took a hike to see the glacier up close, but he couldn't actually touch it because there were barricades. It's dangerous and people have fallen through cracks and died.

We arrived in Jasper around 5pm and found our cabin at Patricia Lake. It's a very pretty place and Mom is happy to have a real kitchen with a fridge and microwave! I checked out the lake and the water is cold!

Laura again on

OK, I just did a quick search for Moose and Elk and I'm with your Mom on this one. I don't see a difference. Maybe if they were side by side I would but they look awfully similar. Maybe they're cousins. :) Cousins rock.

The scenery is awesome. But what is Baconnaise, sounds yummy.
