The day started out good. First, we took the gondola ride up Sulphur Mountain. This was one of Mom's "must do" and it was tons of fun. Afterwards, we walked around Banff a bit, which was easy to do because the city is pretty small. There are a lot of people about because Banff is a popular place to visit.

Lunch was at a restaurant called "Coyote". We decided to eat a bigger lunch so we wouldn't have to do much for dinner. I had pesto pasta with shrimp, which was ok. Dad had pasta with mushrooms and spicy sausage and that was really good. Mom had her usual turkey sandwich, which sounds boring but was better than usual with avocado. After lunch we went to an ice cream place called cows. I had chocolate mud and I got a shirt there. The ice cream was good. After that it started raining a lot so we ducked into an Indian museum. There were displays of Indian artifacts like beadwork and headdresses, plus exhibits that explained Indian ways and rituals. I bought a geode rock at the gift store.

It cleared up so we decided to try the Hot Springs. This was a good idea and I liked sitting in the warm water and looking at the mountains that surrounded the pool. The water was HOT and after about a half hour, we were ready to leave.

After stocking up at a Safeway, we started to head back to the cabin but the road was jammed with traffic. That's when we found out that there was a big mudslide on the highway that goes to the cabin, and the road was closed! This was the only way to get back to the cabin, so we were stuck in Banff! Dang! And then it really started raining a lot more and we decided we better get a hotel room while we still could. Mom and Dad tried reaching the cabin where we were staying but no one answered. Lucky for us, we found a decent room at the Elkhorn Lodge that even had coffee, TV and free WiFi! It was after 9pm and we were all hungry, so Mom used the coffee maker to fix us instant soup that we bought earlier. We watched an old movie on TCM, which made Mom really happy. For being stranded, it ended up being ok.

WOW! That was an adventure. How long does it take to clear the road of a mud slide? Did that put you behind schedule?

The hotel is amazing. I also love the picture of the coyote.

Is the snapshot of "the hotel" where you guys stayed? It looks like something out of the movie "The Shining!" I bet the icecream place was awesome - great cow!
