Mom cooked pancakes and sausages for breakfast today. We also had coffee from Starbucks packets that you mix with hot water. After breakfast, we drove to see the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone. It was a lot bigger than I expected and pretty. I took a lot of pictures. We also saw 2 elk on top of a ridge-their antlers were really big so I think they were older elk.

We took a long, twisty drive in another direction and eventually ended up at the Roosevelt Lodge, where we had lunch. That's where I had the Roosevelt beans, which were really good. The lodge was built a long time ago and is made out of logs. It's a place where people take horseback and donkey trips into the country. After lunch we drove into the Lamar valley where there were herds of bison (again!) and some pretty scenery. The land is more hilly and has pastures where animals graze. We kept hoping to see a bear, but didn't see one there.

We finally got a glimpse of a bear when we drove back to camp. There was a big traffic jam and everyone was out of their cars and looking up the ridge into trees. There was a mother black bear there with a cub, but we hardly saw it at all and couldn't get a photo because the ranger came and made everybody move on. All I saw was its head.

It started raining hard when we got back to camp and that meant that we couldn't have a cookout as planned. So we had peanut butter and jelly sandwiches in the car instead. That night, we played Uno in the tent and watched part of a Northern Exposure episode.
