This morning I'm off to Esperance approximately 60 kms away from the magical spot of Quagi Beach where I spent the night and for the unreal sum of $2...Wish there were more places like this one around and not because of the price, but because it was just beautiful and within walking distance to the beach and unusual rock formations.

At last the rain has dispersed and as I make my way towards Esperance I cross my fingers that it stays that way, enough is enough!

First stop, information centre and get the insight on local attractions.

With my map in hand I take off for the 40kms Great Ocean Drive...while the sun is still shining.

Wow! has to be seen to be believed...just mesmerizing.

Brilliant blue water and snow-white beaches and a string of close to 110 islands in crystal clear water off the shoreline.

I was glad I did this first as the weather took a turn for the worst...again and I found myself locked indoors for the next couple of days.

By Thursday I had had enough and packed up to go to Kalgoorlie a couple of days drive away for their annual St Barbara's Day Festival which celebrates the mining industry with a street parade of mining trucks that was being held on the Saturday 1st December.

I got as far as Gibson (25kms) up the road and thought I'd blown a tyre, so I stopped and checked. Nothing. Back in the van and drove on a few metres but was forced to stop again as the noise was getting louder and louder, like metal or something stuck underneath and dragging. Still nothing. This is weird...what the ??? As I was closer to Esperance than the next 'big' town I decided to turn back; crossed my fingers I wasn't doing any further harm to whatever it was that was broken or dying and find a mechanic.

I limped into Esperance about an hour later and found a mechanic who immediately took the van for a drive to get a better idea as to what the problem was.
Well, he said he would have to have a closer look but thought it could be the rear wheel bearings. Of course it would have to be something complicated.
Anyway, after an hour of trying to get the seal off and see what damage had been done he gave up and said it would be best to come back tomorrow and do it.
So this time I limped back to the caravan park and booked myself in for another couple of days.

Friday, bright and early I arrived at the garage and they started huffing and puffing on the van for over 3hrs before coming to the conclusion that it wasn't going to come off and therefore they should look for the new parts as it was obvious they were going to make confetti out of these.
Phone calls everywhere to find wheel bearings for a 1985 Bedford...A WHAT?

Yes, nobody in Perth have any and he finally found someone in Qld. It is now 4pm in Qld, Friday 30th November so no chance of having the parts posted until Monday. So they put the wheel back on and told me to 'limp' back to the park and wait.

WAIT!

The parts arrived Friday afternoon 7th December.

So my three day stay in Esperance has turned into two weeks.

There is no public transport, no beaches nearby, no shops within walking distance and I have been subjected to frightening storms of thunder and lightening, gale force winds that have rocked the van and strewn branches and debris all around me in this time.

Not one day has gone by without the wind reaching 40kms/h...it's unreal.

Tomorrow (10th) I will be driving the van back to the garage and there is still no guarantee that the mechanic has ordered the right wheel bearings not having been able to get the old ones out.

I don't know who I killed in another life, but they sure as hell are getting back at me now!
