Made my way back on to the bitumen after Victoria River stay and came across some weird looking trees which I was to learn later are the Boab tree a Kimberely icon.
"Every boab tree is unique. They have character and personality as you would expect of such an ancient creature. Some individual boab trees are 1500 years old and older, which makes them the oldest living beings in Australia, and puts them amongst the oldest in the world.
Aboriginals used the giants as shelter, food and medicine. For the
white settlers they served as easily recognisable land marks and meeting
points, and not to forget as impromptu prison cells". This information was taken from the following link if you're interested in learning more about this majestic specimen
http://www.outback-australia-travel-secrets.com/boab_tree.htmlIt was back on the track again for more excruciating heat and loneliness. The loneliness was due to the fact that regardless of all my searching in Cairns to find a device to play my music, the sound of the motor drowns out all other noises even though the speaker is above my head, and after only a few hours of my very special CD's, the conflict of noises was unbearable and I was forced to pack the player away for better days, or a less noisy van.Next stop W.A. border and quarantine check. I had been warned in Katherine that they are very strict about what passes into W.A.and after reading the list realised all I had to do away with some honey that I had left over and my last orange; I gobbled that down at the entrance to the quarantine rest area. Pull up and all the fuss about being strict was a joke, I was asked what I had and gave it to her and that was that, no rummaging through the van as I was told there would be.
And away we go again into the unknown.
