WOW! After so many nights staying in shonky 'freebies' I finally found a place made in heaven.
It was at the end of a 2km ride on a very rough gravel road, but worth every bump and groan to get there. When I arrived I was unsure whether I should stay as there was a barrier across the road and to the left, access through another track, so I said 'what the hell' I'm in the middle of nowhere who is going to know? So glad I did as it was on the top of a ledge and the view of the Victoria River was absolutely spectacular and I was all alone to enjoy it, which made me a little apprehensive I have to say, but stayed anyway. For the first time in weeks the dogs were able to run free and play and actutally enjoy life. It was so relaxing just sitting there listenting to the sound of the water and the birds, at one stage I thought I could even hear fish jumping out of the water. There was no chance of being attacked by crocodiles as I was too far up the embankment, but...have to admit the thought did enter my mind.
Next morning the sun broke over the mountain to a cloudless sky and I new it was going to be another hot day. I made breakfast and just sat back in awe at the view, it had been so long since I had seen anything as beautiful compared to all the parched land and red soil impregnating all in its path.
By the time I had packed up and was finally ready to leave I heard the sound of a car...oops, two men hop out and walk towards the other side and keep going. I sat myself down in the drivers seat and one of the men points at me and indicates to leave. I was lucky as I hadn't realised I had stayed over night in a picnic area and could have been fined...Luck was on my side this time.
