As the weather is getting hotter and unbearable to drive in I made it up the road to the intersection of Tennant Creek, Barkly Highway and Stuart Highway and sat under a tree for 5hrs trying to keep cool and just preying the heat would subside enough to continue on, later in the afternoon.
I had the chance to meet a man who was doing likewise and we got to talking and from this I found out he is a retired mechanic. So I started to ask different questions about my van and one was why is it costing so much in petrol and he said it was basically because the motor is a 6 cylinder petrol and they are not economical to run. Woe is me! Another stupid error on my behalf!!!

However, one thing I did find out is that I can reach the dip stick from inside the van through a little door and I had been cursing all this time trying to squirm through the hot motor to reach it...DAH!
So we parted ways and I was very thankful for the information that he passed on to me...but that doesn't alter the fact that it's still costing a fortune in petrol, and at over a $1.70 a litre the rest of Australia has it good...
I am not seeing much of the sights as I may have mentioned before, the dogs make it impossible to enter National Parks so it's more of a "drive across the states" without the enjoyment of seeing all  the natural wonders of this beautiful country.
At this stage all I want to do is get out of NT and make my way to the other side and be closer to water and cooler weather. Roll on WA.
