5 pm rolled around and we headed to the port. We checked in and passed though customs and immigration and got our entry stamps for Uruguay before even leaving Buenos Aires. Efficiency. We got a coffee waiting and then hopped aboard the ferry
We arrived in Colonia and passed through customs again (basically a bag scan) and walked outside to suss out the town and find a hostel. In 8 months of travel i have never pre booked a hostel, and for the first time in my life, it came back to bite me. We looked and looked and made phone calls and looked some more.
Apparently there was a national soccer event in colonia tomorrow so we had no real choice but to walk back to the bus stop and keep on moving straight to the capital Montevideo. We booked a place before leaving Colonia to not push our luck, even though i knew there would be multiple places to stay. We got on our 2 and a half hour bus, which was definitely not direct. We were pickin up people going for nights out, picking up vendors off the streets and everyone in between. The lights would go off for 15 minutes and then come straight back on again making sleep impossible.
When we arrived we caught a taxi to our booked hostel and then went out to get something to eat. The best thing about south america is that things dont close until super late, so we got a pizza and a few beers before heading back to the hostel to bed at about 3am.
