Arriving in Frankfurt was a little bit of a choatic scene for me. Now arriving here I had nothing planned....I mean nothing! The only general idal I had was that I had to get to Berlin. I stepped outside the airport and realized that it was rainning....sideways. Cold and windy, it was quite the change from the sunny Valencia, Greece and Turkey I had spent my last couple months. I thought that I might be able to just spend the night in Frankfurt to see what the city was like then move on from there. Little did I know, that there is two airport in Frankfurt and the one that I would be landing at would be an hour and a half out of the city. I was prepared sleep on the airport floor to be honest. I went on to couchsurfing and posted a emergency couch request to see if maybe I could find someone. I must have drank 5 cups of coffee waiting to hear a reply, but to no avail. I actually got more responses from friends on facebook than I did with CS (thank you Carol and Mathias). I eventually broke down and just got a hotel room. It was an added cost that I wasn't really in the mood to spend, but at the same time, I had been surfing couches for quite a while in the past few weeks that I just wanted a place of my own. This way I could try to figure out my next plan of attack. And... I could also walk around in my underwear :) After two days of planning, writting emails, calling friends in all corners of the globe via skype, and recharging, I rented a car and started to make my way towards Berlin. I rented a car because the train was going to be ridiculously expensive, so I figured why not get some driving out of my system. The car I rented was just a small Fiat 500. I actually rather liked the tiny wheels, however as I soon found on my way, that it is defenitely not a car suited for the autobahn. I had that little thing humming about as fast as its little heart could go. I think I was lucky to hit just shy of 200 kms/h on a down hill with a strong tail wind. While driving though, I was getting passed by BMW driviers that made me look like I was sitting still, and I was doing 140 at the time as well. I could officially say that I had driven on the autobahn, something that I had always wanted to do since I had heard about it as a kid. Some people went whipping past me as well because I think they were just pissed off to see a Fiat flying in the fast lane as I would catch back up to them farther ahead. Again....they would blow past me. I think it was just a game to them. I must say that I made some kick ass timing. The only downside to flying so fast was that the gas was sucking back fast. 50 euro just to fill a car up that is smaller than a civic! Time to slow down a bit I think. I even tried to take the slow route going through all kinds of little villages, but I think I would still be driving off in the german country side if I had continued. I just wanted to get off the beaten path. Many of the little villages were looking the same, and since I didnt have too much time to stop in them...I came to the conclusion that getting back on the authobahn was probably the best solution. Before I actually made it to Berlin, there was a two day pit stop along the way. More of that to come....
