With funds rapidly disappearing we caught a flight from Darwin to Brisbane. In an ideal world we would have continued around Australia by road, but lacking a car and time, we opted for the easy way out. The reason we had to rush over to Brissy was because Dan's family and Holly had flown over for a holiday and it would have been rude not to meet up!

We had a couple of days spare in Brissy before we met up with his folks, so we did the touristy thing around the city, including visiting the legendary XXXX Brewery. [FACTS] A cool brewery, it was made even better with the 4 free pints they gave us at the end!

After a few heavy nights out on the town, we were glad to see Dan's mum Maggie, dad Tony and Sister Becky! Very generously they had booked us into a flash apartment in Surfers Paradise, so for the next 2 weeks we lived and ate in style! A break from the backpacker life was well needed.

Over the next 2 weeks we did so much around the area. Once I finally got over a very annoying cold that had me bed ridden for 3 days, we visited Australia zoo, better known as Steve Irwin's zoo featured on his 'Crocodile Hunter' TV show.

Although bitterly disappointed to find out Steve wouldn't be doing a cameo that day, one of his workers put on a great show instead, standing within centimeters of a 10 ft croc feeding him scraps of food (see photo)!

As well as all the crocs, we saw all the usual 'aussie' animals; koala's, dingo's, wombats getting walked around like dogs and of course loads of Kangaroos!

Back in Surfers Paradise we spent a couple of days lazing by the beautiful long beach that stretches along the coastline. Getting itchy feet, I hired out a surfboard... well you have to surf when you're in Surfers Paradise! I hadn't actually surfed since Sydney back in December, but assumed that I wouldn't have forgotten what to do... wrong. I spent the next hour falling off constantly and cursing under my breath. More practice is definitely needed!

Another day was spent on Morten Island, just off the coast of Brisbane. Made completely of sand, we visited the island to feed the dolphins that swim ashore every evening. Whilst we were waiting for the dolphins, we sat and watched a beautiful sunset on the horizon, which you will all probably agree is one of the best we've seen since arriving in oz!

Sadly the 2 weeks flew by and it wasn't long before we were saying our goodbyes at the airport just as we did 10 months earlier in Heathrow. It was so nice seeing my 'foster' family again and we were both very grateful to them for their generosity. Although they were about to fly 24 hours back home, we had a slightly shorter flight of 2 hours up North. Enough of this holiday lark... we still have the small matter of the 2 months fruit picking left to do. If we didn't hate the sight of tomatoes now, we certainly would in 2 months time...
