The storm eased as we left the mountain alm (hut), an answer to prayer, as we were worried about gear getting wet etc. We walked all the way back to the car (no gondola this time), then had breakfast in Berchtesgaden. We then went to Salzburg in Austria, though you wouldn't have known we changed countries - no different to changing provinces at home, no passports needed, hardly any signage for you even to know! Weird.
In Salzburg we had a quick look around and went up to the festung. That was very cool but unfortunately we did not have time to look at all of the inside as Lisa had a very important Sound of Music Tour to do. However, that did not go as well as it should. We turned up at the office of the tour company who said I was the only one booked on that tour. So they wanted me to rebook for another time. It seemed completely wrong that had I not turned up they would have charged my credit card but when they don't hold up their end of the deal it is just tough! Our helpful German friends didn't like this either so the tour lady called another company and got me into their tour. It was ok but not as good as the one I'd booked. However, when I get home I'm looking forward to seeing the movie again and saying, "I've been there!" (much to Matt's disgust!!).
While Lisa was touring, Matt found his mother her much desired cuckoo clock to replace the one she lost (which she got when she travelled when she was young). It took him 2 1/2 hours to find it and eventually found it in the shop he first went into to seek directions to a shop it was expected to be found in! Funny. He and Tanja and Hubert then sought shelter from the rain until Lisa got back, then we went to Bischofsweisen (back in Germany) and dropped our gear at our bed and breakfast, before going to dinner at another traditional restaurant (though this one had an English menu). More beer was drunk and we struggled to stay awake to finish it, after another busy day.
Matt feel asleep instantly once lying down on the bed when we got back, completely oblivious to Lisa charging the camera, his ipod, sorting our gear for the next day etc.
